The goal of „Zaļā josta” Ltd. voluntary waste management program is to minimize the negative effect that used packaging has on environment and to promote voluntary agreements and establishment of principles of responsibility regarding used packaging as well as to:

  • promote repeated use of packaging;
  • promote minimization of material used in packaging while maintaining its planned and performed functions;
  • promote and provide regeneration of used packaging;
  • optimize costs of management of used packaging and integrating them in regional household waste management systems;
  • form careful resident and industry attitude towards environment.

Main principles of „Zaļā josta” Ltd. voluntary used packaging management program:

  • principle of sustainable development – both state and society form system of social and economical conditions which anticipate lasting use of natural resources, ensure improvement of human standards of living as well as satisfy  immediate needs without causing threats to satisfaction of needs of future generations and ensure preservation of biological diversity for an unlimited period of time.
  • Principle “pollutant pays” – physical or legal persons pay the expenses regarding pollution created by their economic activities.
  • Precaution principle – physical or legal persons must minimize their impact on nature in general as well as particular elements of nature. It is the obligation of initiators to ensure compliance to environmental laws and regulations as well as environmental politics in state.
  • Evaluation principle – every action or activity which can affect the environment can only be allowed if the result of this activity is positive both to the performer and society in general and this positive effect is greater than negative impact on environment.
