Persons who collect secondary raw materials
Zaļā josta has entered into an agreement of cooperation with specialized companies for collecting secondary raw materials all over Latvia on regular collection of used packaging, environmentally harmful products and electrical equipment. Zaļā josta finances the costs of collecting the secondary raw materials out of the payments received from customers, ensuring that through the mediation of the cooperative partner each secondary raw material was collected and delivered to the recycling in the quantities provided for in the Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers. Thus, Zaļā josta co-finances the collection of secondary raw materials from individuals, developing the infrastructure for separate collection of waste in Latvia, as well as from legal entities and production works, ensuring the efficient recycling of high-quality secondary raw materials.
Secondary raw material recycling entities
Zaļā josta has entered into an agreement specialized companies for recycling secondary raw materials in Latvia and in the nearest neighbouring countries. Based on the agreement these partner companies recycle used packaging, environmentally harmful products and wastes of electrical equipment created by the customers of Zaļā josta into secondary raw materials, ensuring compliance with the regeneration norms provided for in the Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers. Zaļā josta co-finances the process of secondary raw material recycling, and invests in the improvement of the system, the introduction of new recycling technologies and the creation of the secondary raw material recycling facilities. As a result, by means of the payments made by the customers of Zaļā josta promotion of the recycling industry in Latvia is carried out intensively, contributing to the creation of new jobs and preventing the outflow of valuable resources abroad.
Natural resources taxpayer
The Natural Resources Tax Act stipulates that legal entities, which were the first in the territory of the Republic of Latvia to:
- Sell products in packaged form;
- Use the products purchased in packaging in order to ensure their economic activities;
- Provide the packaging to their products, rendering their services, and this packaging is received by the service recipient after rendering the service;
- Sell tableware and disposable products in the catering and retail;
- Sell or use environmentally harmful products (oil, tires, rechargeable batteries, batteries, etc.) for the purpose of their economic activities;
- Sell or use electrical and electronic equipment for the purpose of their economic activities,
Become a natural resources taxpayer (NRT). A natural resources taxpayer is obliged to keep records of the flow of used packaging, environmentally harmful products and electrical equipment in the company and pay tax or it. Zaļā josta provides natural resources taxpayers with alternative possibility, i.e. to be exempted from NRT payment by signing an agreement for economic management with Zaļā josta, and as a result, to save costs.
After signing the agreement the customers of Zaļā josta regularly submit reports on the sales volume of used packaging, environmentally harmful products and electrical equipment and pay for the services of economic management in accordance with the rates specified in the agreement. Payments received by Zaļā josta are forwarded to the collecting and recycling of secondary raw materials, activities to inform the public on the issues of environmental protection, development of the infrastructure of waste separation and recycling, the introduction of recycling technologies in Latvia, as well as on the overall improvement of the waste economic management industry on a national scale.
“Zaļā josta”
Zaļā josta Ltd. is engaged in the economic management of used packaging, tableware and disposable products, environmentally harmful products and electrical and electronic equipment created by the customer, which provides the companies with 100% exemption of the payment of the natural resources tax. Cooperating with Zaļā josta Ltd., the company will not only fulfil the requirements established in the law, but will also gain the reputation of the environmentally friendly and responsible company, in turn, the work of their accountants will be simplified, and they will be informed of all relevant news in the industry.
Zaļā josta Ltd. provides for the mutual cooperation of all parties involved in the system of economic management, coordinating the regeneration of the waste flow and compliance with the requirements for economic management stipulated by the state. Zaļā josta carries out a lot of work in the field of information and education of the society on the issues of the environmental protection, promoting the clean and well-managed environment in Latvia and the development of responsible business activities.
Regulatory state institutions
Zaļā josta operates under the strict supervision of the responsible state institutions, regularly submitting the reports on its activities, including the exhaustive information on the customers’ sales volume of used packaging, environmentally harmful products and electrical products, as well as providing the reports on compliance with the regeneration norms by implementing the secondary raw material recycling.
To have the right to provide for its customers 100% exemption from payment of tax on natural resources, Zaļā josta Ltd. shall fulfil a number of requirements of regulations and standards, the Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers and laws, and shall regularly submit its reports to the regulatory institutions.
Local governments
Zaļā josta cooperates with local governments, jointly creating the infrastructure of waste separation, making it more accessible to the public and motivating more and more people to participate in separate waste collection. In cooperation with local governments, Zaļā josta organizes various educational and informative events, workshops and lectures, contributing to the understanding by the responsible institutions and the public of the need to separate the waste.
Public
Zaļā josta regularly carries out various educational, informative, joint projects, educating the society for the protection of the environment and motivation to separate the waste, thus, providing a comprehensive work of the system for secondary raw material regeneration. Significant work is carried out with legal entities by means of arranging courses and seminars on proper accounting of packaging, environmentally harmful products and electrical equipment in the workplace. In turn, through a variety of outdoor events, school competitions and practical campaigns for the collection of secondary raw materials Zaļā josta involves different categories of the society in the process of waste separation, the secondary raw materials recycling and saving natural resources, contributing to raising awareness of the society in the protection of the environment.
